Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between mean, median, and mode?
Mean is the sum divided by count (average). Median is the middle value when sorted. Mode is the most frequently occurring value. For 1, 2, 2, 3, 9: mean = 3.4, median = 2, mode = 2.
What if there's no mode?
If all numbers appear only once, there is no mode and the tool displays a dash (-). If multiple numbers tie for most frequent, all modes are shown.
Is this population or sample standard deviation?
This tool calculates population standard deviation (divides by N). For sample standard deviation (divides by N-1), the result would be slightly larger.
How many numbers can I enter?
You can enter up to 2000 characters of input. This typically allows for hundreds of numbers depending on their length.
